The VPA senior trip is to Washington, D.C. and Virginia. At VPA, we offer the best of the western tradition in our curriculum. It is thus appropriate that our seniors, as a part of their capstone experience at the Academy, would visit the political and cultural capital of the western world. Our nation’s capital offers us numerous sites that make us more aware of what it means to be an American and a citizen of the west. Additionally, there are many enjoyable activities and sites to see for chaperones and seniors alike. There is not time during the trip for family reunions or for college visits; students may arrange to remain in Washington after the trip ends, but they will need to arrange their own air travel.

When is the Senior Trip?

The senior trip is currently scheduled for March 10 -15, 2027. Our plan is to leave early in the morning on Wednesday and return the following Monday evening. The senior trip traditionally begins a couple of days before the rest of the academy goes on Spring Break, and we get back in enough time to take advantage of the Spring Break week.

Who goes on the Senior Trip?

The trip is open to all VPA seniors. While we strongly encourage all to participate, the senior trip is certainly not mandatory. VPA organizes and chaperones the trip as a service to its seniors. This year’s Senior Trip Organizers are Mr. and Dr. Nydegger. They and four to five other chaperones will accompany students to Washington, DC.

How will we get there? Where will we stay? How will we get around?

The group will travel by commercial airliner to Washington, D.C. We will stay in a tourist-class hotel, the Courtyard Marriott on Wisconsin Ave in Maryland, because of its safe location, its reasonable rates, and its proximity to restaurants and the subway station. When in the city, we will do a great deal of walking, but we will also use the Metro, one of the world’s cleanest and safest subway systems.

What is the payment schedule?

The cost of the trip is $1850, and we have broken up the cost into four payments:
